چکیده

A vehicle proximity warning collision avoidance system is being developed using GPS and wireless local area networks to improve safety of off-highway trucks in open pit mines. After two an a half years of research, software development, and laboratory testing, field tests were carried out at operating limestone quarries and open pit mining operations to evaluate GPS accuracy and overall system effectiveness under rugged operating conditions. This article describes the progress made on this NIOSH funded project and discusses the GPS accuracy tests and overall system tests that were carried out during the year 2001 at the Colorado School of Mines Survey Field and at the Morenci open pit copper mine in Arizona.

A Hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS Sensor Fusion with WLFP for Flying Robo-SAR's Navigation

In this paper, we present the results of a hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS/WLFP sensor fusion to be used in navigation system devices. Due to low quality of the inertial sensors, even a short-term GPS failure can lower the integrated navigation performance significantly. In addition, in GPS denied environments, most navigation systems need a separate assisting resource, in order to increase the avail...

Development of a goal programming model for optimization of truck allocation in open pit mines

Truck and shovel operations comprise approximately 60% of the total operating costs in open pit mines. In order to increase productivity and reduce the cost of mining operations, it is essential to manage the equipment used with high efficiency. In this work, the chance-constrained goal programing (CCGP) model presented by Michalakopoulos and Panagiotou is developed to determine an optimal truc...

An Architecture for Intelligent Automotive Collision Avoidance Systems

Since 1960’s significant progress has been made with regard to vehicle safety. In spite of this progress, each year in the United States, motor vehicle crashes still account for approximately 40,000 deaths, more than three million injuries, and over $130 billion in financial losses [1]. Development of Automotive Collision Warning Systems (ACWS) is the next significant step towards vehicle safet...

Analysis of Large-scale Displacement Using Radar Interferometry Technology in Open-pit Mines (Case Study: Gol Gohar Sirjan Mine)

Abstract Mines with their displacements cause damage to infrastructure and land, so it is important to control the displacement caused by mines. Also, the amount of minerals extracted from mines has always been of interest to managers. On the other hand, radar interferometry, given the production of repetitive and full images and the acceptable accuracy of this method, in examining be sugge...
